Run for your life!

Most of you know the Flight accident that I escaped from.. Here is my story about it.

My flight was from Chennai to Madurai scheduled at 3:10 PM on 6th Dec. It was day 3 of continuous rain in Chennai. I started at around 1 PM from my home having the traffic in mind. But I reached the airport in 15 mins and went for the check in. This is where I was informed that the flight is 2 hours late and it is rescheduled at 5:00 PM. So, I started working from airport and somehow killed the time as the flight was again rescheduled at 5:30. One of my Colleague asked me to assemble near the gate at 5:00 completing the security check. So, we were 6 people from IBM who were going to board the flight.

Finally at 6:10 PM, we were called to board the flight. I was sitting near my colleague Saravanan and even though this was not my first flight experience, I was tensed because of the climate. My colleague was scaring me on top of it. :-( The flight started to move slowly and finally took off in the bad climate and I was somehow relaxed. We were sitting near the left wing and we could see both the propeller from our seat. Saravanan was pointing that one was not rotating at all. I thought he was trying to scare me and explained him that since it is dark and blah blah, we are not able to see it rotating.

This is where the pilot says that we are going to land back in Chennai due to and off he goes.. Everyone was dumb-struck and I was even more scared. (Saravanan later told me that I was very pale till the flight landed) So, the flight turned around and was landed. The flight ran for half a km on grass and then only on the runway. When the flight stopped, everyone was smiling and started clapping that we are safe. Here comes the next shock.. We were asked to evacuate and jump from the flight leaving our bags in the flight itself. One guy jumped and his mobile and coins fell from his pocket and he was searching for it in the dark. :D :D :D

Kudos to the pilot, he managed to stop near the airport's fire station. Only after jumping we noticed that everything was kept ready, the fire engine, ambulance and security persons and all. People were hurt during the jump and few were shocked and they were immediately given the first aid.

We were later told that the flight was rescheduled from the original time because of technical reasons only and the technicians thought that problem was solved and gave a green signal to take off. Since one of the propeller was not rotating caused fire sparks and the rain stopped its aggravation. Thanks to the rain. :) :)

We were taken back to the airport where we got tickets for the next flight to Madurai the next morning and given accommodation.

A thought to Ponder!

Most of the girls wait for a Prince to come and rescue us from a tower or from a dragon or from a witch. Leave out the prince for that matter, is there anyone out to save us?? The only person to save us is us. From what we hear from news and papers, sometime or most of the time, we have to save us from the entire community. I am not only talking about the teenage girls or adults but also kids. Yes, I am talking about the Child abuse. We always hear stories from our friends and colleagues about child abuse but in some cases, where the victim will be our friend or the colleague who has suffered it.

Recently, I saw a video of Dr. Sunitha Krishnan in TED-India 2009 show which was really painful. It was really a pain to see the kids at the age of 3/4 are being sold. I was wondering how any parent can be so heartless to do such a thing to their children. The other shocking factor was, it was not only a father who does, but at times mothers also sell their kids. Why do they give birth in the first place if they are so heartless. There was an article which said some idiotic father in Mumbai raped his own daughter. I felt like I could kill this guy. Child Abuse is not like it happens in a different state or country. It might even happen in your street or in your family. This person need not necessarily be someone outside your house. I am not pointing that all the guys are the same, there are few exceptional characters.

Its really great to see women like Sunitha, Oprah have come out in flying colours even after what has happened to them. Hats off Ladies!!!

What are we going to do to stop child abuse? Or are we going to do anything at all in the first place?

(500) Days of Summer - A Review

Its really good to be back watching movies. Its been ages I watched movies continuously and my list of movies to be seen has been increasing ever since. So, I started with 500(Days of Summer). One friend of mine told me it was a good movie and I asked to see it.

When I heard the movie name, I assumed that the movie will be kind of a guy and a gal who gets to meet during a summer when they are out on vacation and end up meeting every summer and the story is about how they got married after 500 summer days. I know you should be laughing now at my insane assumption. :D :D Only after I started watching the movie, I knew that the Female lead's name is Summer.

The movie starts with the leads sitting on a bench somewhere in a park kind of a place on the Day 488. The girl(Summer) is wearing a wedding ring and they both seem like they have got married recently. The Narrator says that "this is story of boy meets girl". The scene shifts to Day 1 where it all begins. For Tom, it is love at the first sight when Summer(Boss's new assistant) walks into the greeting card Company where he works. He knows that she is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But Summer does not believe in relationships or love. She does not want to be somebody's girlfriend. The movie revolves around these two characters and there is one important character in the movie - Tom's adolescent sister - Rachel who helps him when he is in need of it.

The movie shows different days within the 500-day span switching between when Tom and Summer are on and off the relationship. The movie doesn't show the back to back days but picks up a random day. The movie somehow makes us believe that they will end up getting married but the movie takes us otherwise. The Park bench from where the movie starts is the favorite place for Tom. Summer has started growing distant from Tom and on 290th day, Summer break up with Tom in a restaurant. Tom gets too depressed even though his friends and his sister tried to console him. Summer quits the company and Tom's depression has made him to be moved to the Sympathy section. They get to meet up each other once again at a co-worker's wedding. They dance and talk, Summers ends up sleeping on his shoulder during the train journey back also. Summer also invites him to a party at her apartment.

Tom goes to the party thinking that he will win her once again and that is when he sees her showing her engagement ring to one of her friend. He becomes more depresses and only leaves his apartment to purchase alcohol. He quits the company after a meeting and gets more depressed. Finally he comes out of it and returns back to his original field Architecture!!! On day 488, after one of the interviews, he heads back to his favourite spot nad they where he meets Summer once again. Summer explains that Tom was right about True Love but was not right about her. Tom finally happy for Summer's life. On Day 500, Tom goes for an interview where he meets another girl who has applied for the same job. Tom asks her out for a coffee and she says yes!! Guess her name??? No, its not Summer but it is Autumn!!!

They would have finished the movie just after Summer left Tom in the park on day 488 but they made us care about what this Tom character would do at the end of the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Not everyone's love story end happily!!! :)

Review - Alice In Wonderland

The movie Alice in Wonderland is different from the book. In the children's book by Lewis Carroll, Alice is a small girl who is bored and is often in a dream world. She dreams as if she is talking to her sister on a riverbank and notices a white rabbit and follows it. Then we know the story what happened. But in the movie, Alice is a 19-year-old and she has lost her father. People are insisting her to get married to Hamish - the son of her father's business partner. When Alice returns to Wonderland she has to accept the legend that she is person who slays the Jabberwocky on the Frabjous Day. She meets all her fantasy characters - The White rabbit, Dormouse, Dodo bird, Tweedles, Abosolomon(Caterpillar), Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter played by Jonny Depp. The Hatter explains Alice that after Alice had left Wonderland, the Red Queen had taken over Wonderland and banished the White Queen. So, Alice (as the White Queen is so kind and hates fighting) needs to fight against the Red Queen and kill the Jabberwocky.

Alice in Wonderland is my cup of tea. With all those talking animals, queens and to add the 3D factor was great. The Red queen's character is funny even thou she is evil - using the pigs as the footrests, hangs out people who are different like her, plays crochet using a hedgedog as a ball and the one where she tries out the hats made by Hatter. If anyone is wondering who the Red Queen(Helena Bonham Carter) character is, she is none other than Bellatrix from HP. Anne Hathaway has overreacted in some scenes and in most she stuck to her gracious queen character. The scene where the White Queen(Anne Hathaway) prepares a portion for Alice to shrink was yukky. I loved the Hatter character maybe because it was played by Jonny Depp and his Fudderwupping dance at the end.

People who love animation and 3D movies, it is a must watch for you all!!!

Once upon a time!!!!

One of my colleague cum friend was planning to leave the company as he had a better offer. Since I am called as Database(know it all), he came to me to ask if I knew how to create the Separation from the company request. Well, I knew the link but I have not opened the link as I didn't get the need yet. S0, I thought I will do some digging about it and opened the page. It asked for the credentials and I entered my intranet user-id and password to show him how to do. Well, it being the first time for both of us, we were exploring some options there. We forgot that login was mine and gave the request for the separation from my ID!!!! :( :( It struck me only when I had hit the submit button. That too I had submitted the separation requesting for 0 days notice period. Imagine how it would have been for me?!?!?!?

I immediately got a mail saying that it has been approved by the HR. One of the project manager(since my manager was on a half day leave) took my ID card and I was chased out of the building. :( :( I was really petrified to come out of the office without having another job in my hand. On the way home, I tried to concentrate on how to proceed but couldn't hold my thoughts together. After reaching home, I called one of ex-colleague who was working in another company to ask him about openings there. He told me that there was a walk-in going for my experience level and I could come anytime. I was thrilled to hear this and at the same time scared as I had not prepared my CV also because I had no intention of my leaving the company.

On the way to the browsing center, I got a call from old company's manager. He had called me to ask why I was not in office. I explained him what had happened and how the HR had approved my separation. He told me that he had rejected the separation after hearing the story from my colleague and I can come to office. I was very happy to hear and went to office. I forgot that I don't have my ID card and somehow managed to get a temporary ID card from access.

As days went by, I pretty much forgot about this incident and worked as usual. The most awaited this year's rating was to be shared and I was excited as I had worked pretty hard. My Manager called me to discuss it and I was told that I didn't get the top rating because of "THE SEPARATION INCIDENT" even though I had worked hard. :-( :-(

I woke up only to realize that it was only a dream and I was very much relieved!!!

Mangalyam Tantunanena Mama Jeevana Hetuna

Isn’t this the wedding season? But then when wasn’t it good for wedding, at least when our friends get married!

When we get the news that one of our friend is getting married, we feel damn happy. This happiness is not just because he/she is married, it is also because we are going to meet some of our friends on this occasion after a long time. I too got the same feeling when I heard that my friend Sathiya was getting married on 22nd of Aug. To add more joy, another friend of mine Kalai had a good news that her marriage is on 21st Aug. Guess what?!?!? One was in Tirunelveli(approx 700 kms from chennai) and the other was in Perundurai(approx 350 kms from Tirunelveli). This blog is to share the events of my wonderful trip to you all readers.

My journey started on Thursday, 19th Aug in Nellai Express from Chennai Egmore. This was my first train journey to South Tamil Nadu and it was really a good one. The train reached Tirunelveli station at 8:40 AM and I took a bus to Thuraiyur(Near Gangaikondan). Had a very good breakfast as soon as I reached Kalai's home. Kalai and I started packing her things that were to be taken to the Marriage Hall. As evening drew, all the marriage formalities started to take place. Few of the Groom's relatives came to Kalai's house for that famous "Pen alaippu". It was around 6 in the evening when we reached the Marriage Hall in Kovilpatti. Since the Bride is naturally beautiful, the makeover didnt take a long time. Initially, there was a Prayer session and the Father gave the Engagement Saree to Kalai. Then there was a Mass along with the Engagement Ceremony. Kalai was really pretty in her Engagement Saree!!! :-) The Bride and the Groom exchanged the rings during the Engagement and there was a photo session with all the relatives and family friends. When everyone had left for the dinner, the photographer finally got some time with Hero and Heroine of the Day and took variety of fotos for the Marriage Album and CD.

The next day - THE BIG DAY for Kalai, was dressed in a Blue saree with a hair rolled up. There was a small prayer session and then the bride was given her Wedding Saree. The bride wore a Maroon saree with the veil and the groom wore a tuxedo. This is when the entire Friends party arrived. Poor girls, their ticket didn't get confirmed. So, they took a bus from Chennai to Madurai and then to Kovilpatti. The guys somehow managed to come by train and others by bus. We all took some snaps with the Bride. :) The Bride was then taken to the Church where the wedding was to take place. The Bride Procession took place in a nicely decorated car and after 15 mins of this slow procession we reached the Church.

One of the grandest part of any wedding ceremony is when the bridal party makes its entrance. The air is full of anticipation, and the groom anxiously awaits his first glimpse of his bride in her wedding dress. It was drizzling outside meaning that God was showering his blessings through them. As per the tradition, bride's father walks with her down the aisle. He lead Kalai along with the maid of Honor( Sam's sister) followed by us to the Front of the asile where Sam was waiting along with his best man(Kalai's brother). Once we reached the Front Aisle, Kalai took her place near Sam and we all took our seats on the second row. I got the mixed feeling of two movies - 27 dresses and VTV. Wow, that particular moment when Sam and Kalai said "I DO", I can feel the happiness all our friends shared. We were not allowed to take photos or video during the Mass and the marriage ceremony. Once the Mass was over, the photo session started once again. At around 12, the Newly wed left the Chapel and were headed to the Marriage hall for the Reception. The cake-cutting ceremony took place - the bride and groom jointly held a cake cutter and cut the first piece of the wedding cake. We took a memorable snap with Kalai and Sam and gave our gift to them. It was really pleasant to have Vidya's family during the Marriage. Since we had our train to Erode at 3 PM, we had to rush to the rooms that was booked for us and pack our things.

Only after reaching the station, we came to know that the train was late by 45 mins. We were 9 of us - Yoga, Vidya, Sheela, Bala(Meta), Seeni, K7, Vijayanand, Vignesh anna and me waiting for the train. The train arrived finally around 3:50. All of us were damn tired and as soon as we boarded the train, there was discussion whether we should sleep or sit and talk. Well, we decided on chatting. But as time passed on, few of us felt sleepy and started sleeping. The entire journey was really great. Spent half the time chatting, discussing office stuffs and the pranks we played in college. Seeni's family joined us from Madurai and we finally reached Erode at around 10:30. It was nearly 1 when we reached our rooms. Everyone was pretty tired and hit out beds straight away!

After sleeping for barely 2 hours, woke up around 3 AM and started to get ready. Wondering why so early, because the marrige was at 4:30 to 6:00. Managed to reach the Marriage hall at 5:00. All the rituals started at around 5:15 and most of us were hungry as well :D Sathiya wore a nice Bluish green saree and she looked damn pretty. The Groom wore the traditional pattu veshti and shirt with a turban. The newly weds were blessed by throwing uncooked rice to symbolize fertility when tying the knot took place. We initiated the process of gifting the couples. Took a cute pic with the newly weds and off we went to the dinning hall for the breakfast. As all of us were tired, we went to our rooms directly from the Marriage Hall. This was where I found out that our hotel was situated on the bypass to Kovai. Whenever I travel to Tirupur, I always wanted to get down there and take pics as the place was really green and it had so many nice spots. So, we took an hour rest in our and off we went to roam around the highway. Even though we were tired, we didn't want to miss the chance and started walking towards the flyover. Someone in our group thought it was dam. ;-) We climbed to the road and then pics on the flyover and it was really a memorable day!!!

We started back from the room at 12:30 PM to Erode and the guys had their train from Erode at 2PM to Bangalore and the girls train was from Salem at 4:40PM to Chennai. We waved waved goodbye to the guys in Erode bus stand and took a bus to Salem. My mom met us in Salem and went to the Railway station. The Bangalore train was late and we happened to meet the guys again in Salem. The Chennai train was late by 30 mins and my mom & me waved bye to Sheela, Vidya and Yoga and send them off to Chennai. I accompanied my mom to my home sweet home where I slept for barely 30 mins as my train from Salem to Chennai was at 9PM. So, that makes the completion of my trip! Wow, those 3 days were really memorable and the most enjoyed days after my college life. :-)

Memories - A time machine back to Hostel Days

I wanted to post this Blog on August 4th - First day of my College but wasnt able to publish because of my Project deliverable.

Life gives us brief moments with another. But sometimes in those brief moment we get memories that last a life time. This blog is nothing but to share the sweet old Memories of my College days which mostly covers my hostel days.

First Year

I was really mad at my brother for choosing NITT(RECT) over Anna University as I thought I would spend all my 4 years with him. Yes, he is a Lecturer in Anna University. Little did I know that I am in place which is going to be the BEST part of my entire life. So, there I was as a NITTian in Civil Engg department. I still remember the day when my mom left me in hostel and she was all in tears. I was consoling my mom that I will take care of myself and I am grown up to take care of me. Well, the moment she was out of site, I was in tears. Then I spent the first night in hostel memorizing the names, departments and places of my batch girls. Found that there were 2 more girls from my place.

First day to College - Aug 4th, 2003. All the girls from Opal C Block (our hostel)started towards the ADMIN block around 10 AM and we had the classes scheduled at 10:30 on the first day. We were all dressed up in nice simple salwars, dupatta pinned on both the sides and wore bathroom slippers. Everyone of us were that simple :D Hope the readers can understand that this is the code for the first years.

Well, I was put up in B1 section and my first class was maths by Alphonse sir followed by English class by Banumathi mam. I had my first ragging session during my lunch. Well, that was really scary but as days passed the ragging sessions were so funny. I still sing 'Mary had a little lamp' in Tamil - Thanks to Bindhya for the translation. The Freshie was really awesome and the movie was Thiruda thirudi but I missed that as I had some important personal work and had to travel to my home. I still regret for not being there for freshie but family comes first. Then came the semesters and as usual I was happy for the GPA I had got. I was very happy that I am going to be in home for a long period. :-) I met my Best Friend in my first year. We also had Section Damaka - Inter-section Competition. We had the Opal day celebrations and the Opal day movie was Udhaya.

Second Year

Now that we have moved Opal A block, I was in Room number 94 with Archana and Banu. We were 10 girls in our Civil Department. The Kodaikanal Survey trip was the most memorable trip till date. It was a 3 days trip - 2 days in Kodaikanal and 1 day to Madurai Vaigai Dam. We also went to the Dalmia Cement factory for Industrail Visit. This year, the Freshie and the Opal Day movies were M.Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi and Thirupachi. The other Memorable event was the IPT I did - One was in TWAD Board, Salem where we were shown the water treatment plant in Mettur Dam, well it was a mini amusement park and some more places around Cavery River and another one was in Chennai Port Trust, where we explored Chennai a bit and got into all types boats present in Habour. We had the Hostel elections - Kalai was the Hostel Rep and I ended up as the Mess Rep. Talking about the mess, well can anyone forget the Vada akka. I remember Aishu shouting, akka vada venum!!! :D Dog rice, potato chips on the weekends, cutlets, lime juice and Breads for breakfast!!! Uff.. Good old mess :)

Third Year

I remember the days I used to take one of my friend doubles in Cycle throughout the college. I know bunking classes is not big achievement but bunked a Cycle test to confirm the Hall in Hotel Jennys for Anti Freshie he..he... Talking about Anti Freshie, we were about to go on a strike in the college because of some ragging complaints. I got a computer and I just love the night outs we put for watching movies. That was the year I got introduced to Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, thanks to Lavanya. :-) I must have watched all the movies twice or thrice because people watch the movies in batches. The CPC exams and the mock interviews and GDs were very scary and all of us managed to pass the CPC exams. :-) Festember, Pragyan and NITTEST were great as usual. One of the unusual part was that a Pyscho entered the first years hostel and it was during the sem exams and thank God he was finally caught. Our Antifreshie and Opal day movie was Ghajini and Kalaba Kadhalan. We got a Opal Day Tshirt as well this year designed by one of our opalites with a logo on it.

Final Year

The period between the third year and final year was awesome. Most of the final years were in Block C as renovation work was going on in Block A and I was put up in room 333 along with 5 of my friends. The placement days were thrilling and most of us were haunted during these days. July 14, the day I got placed in IBM - My Dream Company. Our girls batch has 100% placement thanks to our CIC reps. :-) Most of us minimized our trips to home and spent most of the days in hostel chatting, watching movies and of course not studying. The new year eve celebrations and our trip to Thanjavur on New Year were great. How would anyone forget the 100th day Celebration which is nothing but the count down to our last day in college - The Mermaid, dance, make up in different costumes and the cake cutting, well we enjoyed thoroughly. Pragyan was yet another important event in our college and it was great! NITTFest was really awesome and since it was the last Nittfest for us, we were very senti about it and most of us gave our best shot in competitions. Our Civil trip to Cochin & Vegaland and our Opal trip to Yercaud was awesome. Our AntiFreshie and Opal day movie for this year was Sillunu oru Kadhal and Unnale Unnale. Opal day celebrations were great as usual, we got a tug of war and cricket competitions for the opal day. :-) My room eventually became the theater for watching all movies and my dear friends forgot that it was a computer and called it as a TV.

As all the exams were completed, my friends started leaving one by one. The leaving part was not most sad part but we still knew that distance will never be a matter to us. My Mom and bro came to pick me up from hostel and that's the end of my college life. The best part of my hostel life was there was no different gangs and no gang fights which was present in other batches. We still share everything to the entire Opal community and thanks to technology which helps us to stay together.

The best things in life is friends, dreams and memories and we get these most during our College life. They are so many people who come into our live but only few will leave memories which can be cherished life long. I like to convey that Opalites, you girls mean a lot to me.

My sins against gender stereotypes

I have always wanted to start blogging when I read Banu's blog on Memories to Cherish Part 2 but time didn't favour me. When I came across Banu's Ten to One --- Tag, I thought it was high time to start blogging.

Here is my Next blog. Thanks to Aishu for tagging me and I hope that I have done justice. As per this tag I need to pen down 10 things that I have done/wanted to do which was not supposed to done by my gender.

People around me will know that I will definitely do things when someone say that "You are not supposed to do it being a girl". There are few things acceptable when people say that is not good or advisable but then when they say you are not supposed to do "because you are a girl", I somehow get the feeling of doing it and I end up doing it also. :-)

So, These are the few things I have done what my gender was not supposed to do

* I am really fond of driving and yes, I have gone for a couple of bike trips well not more 300 kms...Also, I love rash driving which will be accepted by most of my friends who has seen me driving.

* Have Whistled and do whistle for all the Hero's opening scene for which my mom usually says "nee enna paiyana".

* Most of the time have reached my hometown mid night and walk home alone from the bus stop (Distance approx 1.5 kms atleast)

* As Banu said, I too hate soft toys. :D I never understood why girls go crazy about soft toys.

* I do love shopping but I don't take lot of time to choose one and really hate people who take long hours.

* I am not a big fan of pink. I can digest one or pink dresses but I don't like pink everywhere and my favourite color is Blue.

* I never understand why girls spend a lot of time in washroom checking their hairdo and makeup every hour.

* Have had the guts to slap two guys till date (Both were Perverts)

* I really don't know how to walk like a girl and feel shy when time really demands. :-)

I always wanted to do this.

* Love to own a Royal Enfield for which I would get a big NO from my family even though I know to drive. I really wanna go on a bike trip somewhere to North or at least to my Home town from Chennai

Let me tag people now
